Himachal EMTA Power Limited (HEPL) is a 50:50 Joint Venture Company between the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and Kolkata based Eastern Mineral and Trading Agency (EMTA).

The power demand in India is increasing rapidly due to rapid industrial and infrastructure developments. The capacity addition at the present rate will not be able to meet the projected demand and would result in a huge power deficit. To mitigate the gap between demand and supply, Govt. of India is facilitating large scale & medium scale capacity additions at shorter time through public and private investments. To enable larger participation by private sector, the concept of power trading have been introduced.
